The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition announces exciting new exhibitions for fall: Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) plus Ofrendas, Somos LatinX, Background Story and the Brooklyn Watercolor Society at BWAC. A reception for these exhibitions will be held on Saturday, October 29 from 1 to 6 pm at the BWAC gallery, on the waterfront in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Ofrendas (Community Altar)
As a celebration of the Mexican tradition, BWAC presents an art exhibition, Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), in conjunction with the Somos LatinX exhibition. There will be a special presentation, Ofrendas, for children and the community to help build a BWAC altar with artwork offerings on Saturday, October 22 from 1 to 6 pm. School-aged children – especially Brooklyn-based students – are encouraged to bring a small drawing or painting as an offering, in place of traditional food-based offerings. Art for Dia De Los Muertos and the Ofrendas will be on view through November 20, 2022.

Somos LatinX: A Latin American Exhibit
Continuing a celebration of National Hispanic American Heritage month, Somas LatinX explores the rich history, culture, and diversity of Latin Americans in the US. Somos LatinX features artworks from LatinX/Latin American visual artists from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and El Salvador, living in the US. Exhibition curator, Tamavis D. Santiago stated, “Our exhibiting artists illustrate the depth and breadth of the Latin community, with all its diversity and vibrant creativity on display for all to experience and enjoy.”

Background Story
It has been famously said that every image tells a story. Background Story is a fall BWAC member show that exhibits artwork accompanied by a narrative written by the artists. These short narratives, placed next to the artworks, will give gallery viewers insight into the media and processes the artists employed to produce the artworks, as well as their inspiration and thinking behind the message each image conveys.

Brooklyn Watercolor Society at BWAC
The Brooklyn Watercolor Society will exhibit at BWAC from October 29 to November 20, 2022. View a variety of watercolor art styles displayed in the BWS area in the second floor gallery.

BWAC is located at 481 Van Brunt Street, in Red Hook Brooklyn. The BWAC gallery is open weekends from 1 to 6 pm. Visit bwac.org or follow BWAC on Instagram or Facebook.

About BWAC
The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) was founded in 1978 with the simple idea of acquiring exhibition space for artists. Today, as then, our primary mission as an artist member-run nonprofit 501(c)3 organization is to offer art exhibition and performance opportunities – including music, spoken word, puppetry and more – for artists at any stage of their career. BWAC resides in a two-level, 25,000 sq. ft. gallery space in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook, Brooklyn waterfront. BWAC presents art exhibitions in a welcoming, informal atmosphere so art is accessible, artists are approachable, and buyers can affordably begin a collection or add to an existing one.
