BWAC Set to Open Spring Exhibitions in Red Hook Brooklyn, NY — The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists coalition (BWAC) is poised to open their spring exhibitions on Saturday, April 30 with a reception from 1 to 6 pm. Four exhibitions are featured in the expansive space on the Red Hook waterfront:
The Elements
A national juried exhibition, The Elements gathers contemporary working artists for a reappraisal of our relationship to the world. It is an investigation of the nitty gritty of existence as manifest in its ancient essentials: Water, Earth, Fire, Wind and Sky. The setting is BWAC, a gallery space at the end of Red Hook, where earth, water, and sky meet. The show juror is Scout Hutchinson, a Curatorial Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
Sky Earth Sea
A companion exhibition, Sky Earth Sea features the work of BWAC members. As we continue to deal with a worldwide pandemic, we have all gained a new perspective on our relationship to our environment over the past two years. BWAC artists are expressing their emotions on where we are now, in relation to our surroundings.
Art and Artists for Ukraine
BWAC is partnering with Gap Inc. to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees with a special exhibition.
Proceeds of sales from the exhibition will go to the USA for UNHCR fund established by the
United Nations to support refugee families. Gap Inc. will match the sales, effectively doubling
your purchase donation. Art can also be purchased online at artsy.net.
The Brooklyn Watercolor Society
A special exhibition featuring a wide variety of watercolor techniques is being presented by The Brooklyn Watercolor Society on the gallery’s second floor.
There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 30, from 1 to 6 pm. The gallery is open weekends from 1 to 6 pm at 481 Van Brunt St., Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY 11231, from Saturday, April 30 to Sunday, June 5, 2022.
About BWAC
The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) was founded in 1978 with the simple idea of acquiring exhibition space for artists. Today, as then, our primary mission as an artist member-run nonprofit organization is to offer art exhibition and performance opportunities – including music, spoken word, puppetry and more – for artists at any stage of their career. BWAC resides in a two-story, 25,000 sq. ft. gallery space in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook, Brooklyn waterfront. BWAC presents art exhibitions in a welcoming, informal atmosphere so art is accessible, artists are approachable, and buyers can affordably begin a collection or add to an existing one.
