NYC Art Movement is launching its second multidisciplinary art show in the heart of Bushwick. Our purpose to support the artists – and culture – of New York City in a time of rehabilitation as we prevail through the COVID-19 pandemic. In the summer of 2020, the store fronts of NYC offered a canvas of opportunity, from which grew a beautiful unity amongst the most well-known, leading street artists in the city and other talented multidisciplinary New York based artists, some who had never worked in the manner of street art before – time pressed, weather dependent and on an unusual scale.
The inaugural NYC Art Movement exhibition opening (April 20201, curated by David De Hannay) was attended by over 450 people, making it one of the most successful and well-attended art shows during the COVID-19 pandemic in NYC (full saftey measures were of course observed.)
The second exhibiition of the NYC Art Movement June 26 to July 17, 2021 juxtaposes 25 urban and street artists who indivdually speak to the impacts of COVID-19 and the relationship between justice and hate, ways in which humanity and hope can affect our daily lives through different mediums of art.
NYC Art Movement is an artist-run organization that formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York City under the curation of David de Hannay. David is a photojournalist and filmmaker whose curation is focused on human rights and faith in humanity. Despite the health risks in 2020, David decided to document the live art history that was happening on the streets of New York. He began to document the artists painting on the wood boards that were used to secure business storefronts. Later David published a book entitled “Mural Art in Manhattan: 2020 NYC Art Movement from BLM to Covid”, released a documentary film on the same subject, and decided to unite these great street artists together with other multidisciplinary artists to create an art movement.
