Exhibition Features 18 Artists Working in Various Media
Show Runs June 5-30
When the pandemic struck in March 2020 and New York City went into lockdown, painter Mike Sorgatz invited a group of artists to come together on a weekly Zoom call to share information and support each other. It was a diverse group that had concerns about health, isolation, political and social justice issues, employment, online schooling, child care and how to sustain one’s art practice. The call provided a wonderful sense of community in a very difficult and troubling time.
The artists wanted to document their time together, and utilizing their various skills, they created a book, “Twenty Twenty Twenty One.” As the book was being developed, artist Janice McDonnell proposed that the group mount a show to celebrate their connection at the Sweet Lorraine Gallery, located within their shared space at Ti Art Studios, 183 Lorraine Street (between Court and Clinton) in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The exhibition, with the same title as the book, is on view June 5-30 and features 18 artists working in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing and mixed media.
The participating artists are Julia Whitney Barnes, Jon Bunge, Marsha Clark-Lind, Katherine Forst, Spring Hofeldt, Katherine Keltner, Brian Kenny, Katerina Lanfranco, Janice McDonnell, Elizabeth Meggs, Spencer Merolla, Elise Putnam, Mike Sorgatz, Syma, Traci Talasco, Linda Tharp, Vincent Tsao and Ward Yoshimoto.
