BWAC Announces In-Gallery Openings for Spring

The Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition (BWAC) celebrates spring 2021 with three exciting new exhibitions. “After a challenging year, we are looking forward to welcoming an expanded number of visitors to our two-floor Red Hook gallery space.” Says Alicia Degener, BWAC co-president. The shows run on weekends from May 8 through June 20, and the gallery is open Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 pm.

Prints 2021
BWAC’s season opener is a national juried show of printmaking in the ground floor gallery. Humans have been making prints since the first people dipped their hands in pigment and pressed them to a cave wall. This exhibition, juried by Kim Conaty, the Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings and Prints at the Whitney Museum of Art, showcases traditional printmaking techniques as well as new interpretations for the 21st century. Artists from around the country have work for sale, and prints are an affordable entry into the world of art collecting.

The Sky Continues Beautiful
The Spring BWAC member exhibition in the second-floor gallery takes its title from a line in a Walt Whitman poem. The past year has affected all of us and many have turned to Nature for relief – outdoor walks and contemplative moments watching the seasons change. Now we return to spring and the hope and renewal it brings. BWAC artist reflect on the role Nature has played in their experience of isolation and reintegration in this unusual time.

The Brooklyn Watercolor Society
Also, on the gallery’s second floor. The Brooklyn Watercolor Society is presenting their spring exhibition of fine watercolors by local artists. The Society is a non-profit community arts organization that was started in 1972, now consisting of watercolor artists from throughout the Metropolitan area.

Special Events
During the exhibitions, there well also be printmaking demonstrations and free workshops, all conducted while observing CDC guidelines. Visit bwac.org for current listings.
