MoFE’s Liminality, is an anthology of stories that transports audiences into the depths of the liminal realm. Alternating between curated Virtual Reality pieces and original ambisonic soundscapes, the show unfolds like a surreal dream. Sometimes escaping reality is the only way to reckon with it.
When so much has changed and so much remains uncertain, Liminality provides a catharsis and restoration. Like the tornado that pulled Dorothy into Oz, Liminality invites guests to follow a mysterious voice into the dark unknown in pursuit of the light on the other side.
Liminality pulls from the best of global VR creators, featuring award-winning VR pieces by Petter Lindblad, Dominik Stockhausen, and Marc Zimmerman.
Our soundscapes are communal audio experiences played through ambisonic speakers, which create a 3-D sphere of sound around the audience. It is the only permanent Ambisonics installation in New York City. The whole experience is like a refreshing headtrip, induced technologically.
Liminality is a seated, 70-minute audiovisual experience, which includes parts that take place in VR. Liminality is 16+. Previews run June 11 – July 1, 2021 at MoFE (148 GRAND ST in WILLIAMSBURG, BK).
