Such fleas, ere they approach the eye, a group show of miniature works, tests the dissociation of time and place through human perceptions of scale. Derived from Upon Appleton House by Andrew Marvell, Such fleas, ere they approach the eye, describes the process of making the miniature epic through an inversion of scale that reassesses our understanding of and relationship to the natural world. In the text as well as in this exhibition the miniature seems to exist outside the borders of time and inhabits a space of reverie.
Artists: Amie Cunat, Loren Erdrich, Rachel Jackson, Scott Grodesky, Kat Chamberlin, Melissa Capasso, Terry Hoff, Alison Owen, Dominic Terlizzi, Andrea Kastner, Eben Haines, and Katie Hector created artworks reflective of their practice at 1:12 scale. In response to each work contributed curator, Chris Lucius fabricated custom to-scale walls that create a physical border between our world and one much smaller to our own.
