Black Diamond Gallery is proud to present BOROUGH5, a group exhibition that embraces the NYC community by displaying the many faces of New York through the eyes of New York City artists. Including works of various mediums (painting, sculpture, photography and collage), this exhibition will feature portraits that portray the neighborhoods each selected artist calls home. The exhibition runs from July 13 to August 10.
Selected artists for this exhibition include John Ahearn, Devon Rodriguez, Chantal Heijnen, Marcel Daldoce, Gigi Chen, Raul Barquet, Michael Connors, Robert Bunkin, Isaiah King, Charity Henderson, and Fiona Aboud.
Black Diamond Gallery also welcomes guest curator Dan Alvarado, who expressed the importance of celebrating the city residents while connecting all 5 boroughs in one gallery space. “This city has always been a city that has welcomed everyone from everywhere to make this city their home. This city has its iconic landmarks, but New York would not be New York without the people who live here. For this show, I wanted to connect all 5 boroughs together at Black Diamond Gallery by reaching out to local city artists that all have deep connections to Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island.”
Allowing the artists to submit works by their medium of choice, the portrait works displayed for BOROUGH5 are of both literal and metaphorical, of past and present, and a celebration of the diversity of the city residents within various New York City neighborhoods today.
