RECYCLE 2019, will be presented by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC), at the BWAC Gallery in Red Hook, Brooklyn, from Saturday, May 11 to Sunday, July 7, 2019. RECYCLE 2019 is a national juried exhibition in which all the artwork is “upcycled,” being composed of discarded materials, and repurposed or found objects.

Show co-curator Mary Anne Kinsella said, “The artists working today with recycled materials surpass the usual criteria for the imaginative and unique. Their process and workmanship creates another reality for the viewer; I guess that is what all art strives to do. The work in RECYCLE 2019 is superb, superb, superb!” Janice Jacob, show co-curator, added, “We have artists from around the country exhibiting both two dimensional and three dimensional works that not only demonstrate a high level of skill in the handling of the materials, but illustrates the importance of conserving our limited natural resources.”

The exhibition’s returning juror is John Cloud Kaiser, the Director of Education at Materials for the Arts, one the largest reuse centers in the U.S. and a program of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. States Mr. Kaiser, “Each year we are thrilled to see the creative ways that artists transform materials that could have ended up in landfills. They are embedding the stories of their re-used materials into the art through the history of the objects and their statement on sustainability. This exhibition proves without a doubt that discarded materials make fantastic art supplies.”

There will be an opening reception for RECYCLE 2019 on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the upstairs BWAC Gallery, 481 Van Brunt St. #7, Red Hook, Brooklyn. $3000 in Cash Awards for exceptional artwork, as selected by juror John Cloud Kaiser, will be presented at the opening. The exhibit is open on weekends from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. until July 7, 2019. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
