The New York City Department of Sanitation is accepting entries for its “Trucks of Art” initiative, an opportunity for artists to put their artwork, focused on sustainability or our workforce, on one of our collection trucks. As part of DSNY’s goal of sending zero waste to landfills, artists will use paints that would otherwise be discarded or recycled. “Trucks of Art” is open to all artists, professional and amateur.
Applicants should submit a short description of their idea, design mock-ups, and let us know why they want to be selected, along with contact details and a short biography to TrashTalk@dsny.nyc.gov. All submissions must be emailed by Sunday, March 31. The Department will choose finalists and provide them paint – from donated household latex paints to spray paints. The Department will provide access to the trucks for painting in April, before the trucks are publicly unveiled.
Full details of the Trucks of Art project, including full submission information, may be found at http://nyc.gov/truckart.
