Recently named one of the Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals in the world, the Katra Film Series returns to Brooklyn with back-to-back screening events focused on underrepresented communities with works by women filmmakers, filmmakers of colors, and LGBTQ community with a total of 23 short works screening with us in the course of 2 days. We also have 6 films by Brooklyn residents or Brooklyn-based films.
Some of the highlighted Brooklyn works include The Talk, after an unarmed African American teenager is killed, James & Maddie argue over whether to warn their 9 year old son about police brutality; #nofilter – a sitcom about best friends Julia and Alice, Julia’s brother Jason who won’t move off their couch, and his girlfriend Liz, who doesn’t seem to mind – created by husband and wife who say in their mission statement: ”We think of the show as a female-driven Seinfeld for the 21st century. It was written, filmed, and takes place in Brooklyn, NY. We are proud to represent New York, millennials, and strong Jewish women in comedy”; And Divert Lea – An African-American family with special powers is on the verge of being captured by an evil organization in the Government, the only way to survive might be to run or to stay and fight.
The final sidebar edition of the year takes place at the Wine Legend screening space in Downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday, November 13th and Wednesday, November 14th.
