Opening May 3 (6-11pm)
154 Knickerbocker Ave

3RD Ethos Gallery is pleased to present UNTITLED, a multi-dimensional experience of visual and interactive works by K. This is the first solo show by the artist in the space.

Opening Reception is May 3rd, 2018 / 6 – 11pm
UNTITLED combines a series of gestural paintings on paper with a site-specific installation and an interactive performance. K’s work is governed by the interaction of people with the physical world and each other. Lighthearted and vibrant, the work is inspired by the vibes of summer — the unaltered texture of the paper providing a breathing space to reflect a freedom of movement. K created the paintings on vertical surfaces and on the floor, so markings on the paper are like a documentation of a dance in space. The simplicity of color and the ethereal compositions of the paintings align with the site-specific installation which leaves plenty of void spaces for participants to add their own physical presence and emotional state. The installation provokes conversations and interactions as the participants are seen as the main actors, who alter the gallery space intentionally left void or unoccupied.

At the night of the opening, the audience will be able to experience the interactive installation/performance Void Simulacrum. During the performance, everyone is invited to build a dialogue with the space and shape a 50-foot spandex band into multiple shapes and forms.

K’s work is characterized by a visceral response to time and place and explores feelings tied to a particular season reflected in his color use. Since K began seriously pursuing painting on paper in 2012, he has explored the color black as a major framework for geometrical compositions. In 2016, he became interested in the properties of paper as a mean of expression in his paintings in addition to black and a limited color palette of magenta, yellow and teal.

K (b. 1986, Sofia, Bulgaria) works in painting, installation, and performance. He completed a BFA at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn in 2009. K works and lives in BK.
