“Acid Free” New works by Christybomb, MAVA, Sally Ko
Lazy Susan Gallery, Lower East Side Manhattan, NYC
October 26 to November 1, 2016

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 27, 2016, 6-9pm

Lazy Susan Gallery is pleased to present “Acid Free” – a group exhibition of new works by Christybomb, MAVA, and Sally Ko, curated by Jill Conner. The show’s title references elusive and, at times, exclusionary boundaries that exist between the realms of art and craft.

Shown for the first time, these pieces incorporate craft materials with tactile imagery and portray both intimate and distancing relationships. Surfaces alternate from being highly tactile paint to highly crafted materials. Each artwork reinterprets the use of both traditional and craft materials by assigning them new roles and visual identities.

The layering and multiplicity of textures draws the viewer in for up-close encounters, making the objects more present rather than self-aware. The art objects also move beyond their own traditional context, breaking free into three-dimensional and sculptural pieces.
