“Death May Get You Down (and Other Drawings)” at Yashar Gallery is Zane York’s solo exhibition of ballpoint pen drawings that center around the theme of Momento Mori. There is a public reception on Friday, November 6th, from 6-9 p.m. at Yashar Gallery (276 Greenpoint Avenue, at Provost). The 18 drawings that comprise the series are delicately drawn reminders of our transience. The works are executed on brightly colored paper adding lightness to contrast the traditionally sober theme – candy coated death-o-grams, if you will. The exhibition will continue through November 25th as a by-appoint-only show. To schedule a time to see the works, contact Zane by email at dmgyd@zaneyork.com.
About Zane York
Zane York was born in Fremont, Nebraska and was raised all over the Midwest. From an artistic family, he began drawing at an early age; his focus and passion quickly became evident. He spent hours drawing and learning anatomy in pursuit of illustrating comic books – a goal wisely abandoned. York received his B.F.A. in Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and his M.F.A. in Painting from the New York Academy of Art, graduating with honors from both institutions. He moved out to Brooklyn in 2001 and maintains his studio in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. He is represented by Causey Contemporary in New York. He has shown in New York, St. Barthelemy, France, and throughout the Midwest.
