CLOSING MONDAY, JANUARY 5TH AT FORT DEFIANCE IN BROOKLYN: GREAT GOOD PLACES OF NEW ORLEANS! ALL-Y’ALL BE THERE!
Brooklyn artist John Tebeau is showing a new collection of prints featuring beloved institutions of New Orleans. Tebeau says that Brooklyn and New Orleans have a lot in common.
I’ve noticed a lot of crossover between Brooklyn and New Orleans. Both places draw creatives, folks who want to live a slightly different lifestyle than the surrounding culture, and are on a human scale (in Brooklyn’s case relative to Manhattan). Plus, there are plenty of individuals who cross over; who go back and forth. The reason we spend so much time down there is because of such people. They lived in Brooklyn for years, but bought a house (a “unique, fixer-upper opportunity,” as they say) down in NOLA, so they spent a couple years bouncing back and forth till they eventually moved down there for good. They convinced us to start making long visits down there, bless their hearts.
He’s showing the prints at Fort Defiance, a Red Hook institution, because of its relaxed atmosphere and good times – cherished qualities in New Orleans.
Closing party on Monday, January 5, 6–9 p.m. That’s Fort Defiance’s famous burger night.
