The Artist: Zebadiah Keneally
Zebadiah Keneally is a performer, artist and printmaker who came to New York after receiving his BFA in Printmaking from Syracuse University. He has shown and performed at events such as the Brooklyn Zine Fest, the Wassaic Project Summer Festival, the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Fair and the LA Art Book Fair. Keneally has exhibited internationally in Kuwait City, Kuwait and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Keneally states that his work contains “…archetypes and ideas from myth and popular culture, infused with humor, [used] to convey sentimental and existential narratives. These devices give me a way to explore the border of art and entertainment, transcendental experience and boredom.”
Hamburger Vampire
Keneally has described his character, Hamburger Vampire as an “evil entrepreneur;” one who markets feux-spiritual items, services and guidance such as fortune tellings. In much the same way as a television salesman or “snake-oil salesman” advertises a product that subtly promises a feeling of wholeness, Hamburger Vampire is a street mystic/con-artist offering spiritual insight. The uncanny resemblance between advertising and spiritual-guidance is at the core of Keneally’s cynical humor, and his work as Hamburger Vampire.
The Venue: Court Tree Collective
Court Tree Collective is an emerging artspace located in the Carroll Gardens neighborhood of Brooklyn. The collective organizes exhibitions, gallery programming, workshops, art classes and demonstrations in their second floor space on Court Street.
