NU HOTEL: TWELVE ROOMS WITH A VIEW
Opening Reception: Wednesday 17 November 2010; 6 – 9 PM
Black Umbrellas cordially invites you to a group exhibition of NYC based artists to be held at the NU Hotel—85 Smith Street Brooklyn, NY 11201—on Wednesday 17 November from 6 to 9 pm. The hotels’ lobby space will be filled with works by a number of artists and 12 private rooms will host independent solo shows. A variety of mediums will be shown: painting, drawing, mixed media, photography and video—and several artists represented, including: Christopher Blyth, A.J. Bocchino, Cooper Holoweski, Robert Melzmulf, Shawn Brackbill, Julie Gross, Robert Hooman, Eileen Murphy, Rhonda Tymeson, Lisa Ingram, Margaret Neill, Raphael Zollinger, Seth Kushner, Linda Lee Nicholas, Tara Fracalossi, Thomas Lail and more.
A tour of Brooklyn reveals a wide-ranging mélange of styles. Industrial factories stand around the corner from elegant brownstones and old-fashioned wrought iron is found adjacent to modern structures. In spite of the disparate elements, the borough maintains an undeniably beautiful aesthetic. At NU Hotel, the design mirrors Brooklyn’s eclectic and artistic heritage while staying true to the tastes of the modern traveler. From the entrance to each detail found in guest rooms, the airy, light-filled space is a celebration of artistic living with all the functional necessities of a comfortable urban hotel.
