ArtBrewt: Circular Hand Weaving

ArtBrewt is back for session III with our partner venue, Bridge & Tunnel Brewery! ArtBrewt is a bi-monthly program produced by PARADICE PALASE that invites the public to participate in art-making workshops led by practicing artists.

Join us July 10th from 7:30pm-9:30 pm at the Bridge and Tunnel Taproom for a circular hand weaving workshop led by textile artist Jess McDonald.

Want to try weaving but aren’t sure where to start, or love weaving and want to try something different? This workshop allows you to weave on something that is not vertical or horizontal, instead it is circular! Create radiating effects while playing with color and texture. Once the weaving is complete, simply hang and display!

Ticket price includes one beer/beverage* from the B&T taproom and materials to make one circular hand woven piece.

*Please note: This workshop starts promptly at 7:30 pm; we suggest arriving by 7:10 to check in, get settled, and cash in on your drink ticket!

*For non-drinkers, B&T also brews their own Kombucha and Root Beer!

About the artist:
Jessica McDonald is a Textile Artist from Newfoundland, Canada. Making and creating are rooted in her east coast heritage. Being surrounded by makers has inspired her interest and love of textiles. She has an education background in Costume, Apparel Technology, Textiles, and most recently completely a BFA from NSCAD university. She is an active member of the weaving community both locally and internationally. Jessica interned with the Handweavers Guild of America in Nevada, attended a back-strap weaving residency in Oaxaca, Mexico, and has been the secretary for the Atlantic Spinner and Handweaver’s Guild in Nova Scotia. Not only fascinated by the mechanics of weave structures, she finds weaving to be therapeutic and tranquil when at the loom. Her work explores personal history regarding family and home while paying close attention to delicacy and detail. Her grad show, Anamnesis, uses suspended woven imagery of her memories of place. This fully interactive environment allowed the viewer to move through the work, sensing hidden meanings and connections while evoking foggy memories of history and home.
