FiveMyles presents The Art of Undoing Spells by Brooklyn-based grassroots artist collective Guerrillas in the Midst in the main gallery.

OPENING RECEPTION: September 9, 2017, 5-8PM

ON VIEW: September 9 – October 8, 2017

Guerrillas in the Midst is a Brooklyn-based, grassroots collective comprised of artists whose artwork reflects, transforms and deconstructs the social, cultural and economic realities faced by African diaspora communities.

The artists in this exhibition: Anthony Akinbola, Mary Chang, Francks Francois Deceus, Amber Robles Gordon, Jamal Ince, Jean Patrick Icart-Pierre, Navin Norling

The work shown ranges from Navin Norling interest in the dialogue between the richness of rural America with the imagery of Urban found objects; to work by New York- based Nigerian artist Anthony Akinbola, who examines the complexities of an international black identity, as represented with his work “do rags”, a typically African American identifying object; to Amber Robles-Gordon’s visual representation of what she calls her hybridism: a fusion of gender, ethnicity and cultural experiences.

Gallery hours: Thursday – Sunday: 1-6PM
