“Sirens”
April 18-May 27, 2016
Opening reception: Friday, April 29th, 6-8 PM
Brooklyn based artist Etty Yaniv’s site specific installation “Sirens” is featured in a solo show at the Long Island University Humanities Gallery, on view at 1 University Plaza in Brooklyn till May 27th, 2016. Drawing upon patterns from nature such as ocean currents and turbid water, Yaniv’s site responsive installation transforms the LIU unique oval space into a diorama of abstracted and intricate seascape made of discarded materials. Taken from her studio practice and from every-day life, the materials include found objects like torn plastic bags, scraps of her drawings and fragments of photos depicting cities she has lived. Through a process of building and excavating, these disjointed scavenged materials coalesce into colossal yet delicate immersive installation which places the viewer somewhere between the real and the imagined, the organic and the artificial.
