South Of the Navy Yard Artists, (SONYA) was founded in 1999 by Kathleen Hayek, D. Lammie Hanson, and GG Stankiewicz, out of a need to exhibit local artwork. Initially a small group of 19 members, SONYA has grown substantially and continues to reach out to artists in the community.
The membership of SONYA is as diverse as Brooklyn itself. Our group consists of emerging artists, mid-career artists, art lovers, teaching professionals, and local businesses.
The SONYA Studio Stroll has developed into their signature annual event. The Studio Stroll occurs every spring and showcases the working artists of our community.
