Friends of Materials for the Arts hosts 10th annual Masked Marvelous fundraiser

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, Friends of Materials for the Arts (FOMA) will hold its 10th annual fundraiser, Masked Marvelous, from 6-9PM at 33-00 Northern Boulevard, 3rd Floor, Long Island City. FOMA is a not-for-profit that supports Materials for the Arts (MFTA), New York City’s premier municipal reuse program. This annual event showcases MFTA’s reuse warehouse facility, which serves more than 2,400 nonprofit groups, 1,600 public schools, and countless artists and students across New York City.

The event will feature performances several dynamic groups, among them MFTA members, including:

puppeteer Basil Twist;
magician Josh Beckerman;
DJ Earl Grey;
musicians Multicultural Music Group;
and performances by Theatre Dzieci and Groove With Me.

Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate D. Levin, MFTA Executive Director Harriet Taub, and FOMA Chairman Bonnie Weissblatt Weill will give welcoming remarks. The event will also include face painting from Agostino Arts , updos from Fringe Salon, and mask making with reusable materials. Food will be catered by students from the Culinary Arts program at Brooklyn Job Corps, a free vocational training program for young Brooklyn residents with support from BCA (Black Culinarian Alliance), a nonprofit organization dedicated to professional culinary education. Beer will be provided by Lagunitas Brewing Company, and gin cocktails will be mixed by Ian M. Colletti of Vaudeville Park thanks to support from Bombay Sapphire.

Three hundred guests—including representatives from nonprofits across the City—are expected to attend in support of Friends of Materials for the Arts. General admission $60; $35 for MFTA members; children 16 and under free.
