Artist Statement
I believe there is a universal appeal in the specific and that a work depicting a small, personal scene will also resonate with viewers. My aim is to successfully convey the feelings that initially attract me to a scene through the choices I make – from the colors and composition to more subtle elements. While my pieces have often been described as realistic, I never try to hide the fact that the work is a painting not a photographic interpretation. A successful painting will always manipulate reality in order to convey the artist’s vision.

Call for entries

The Rising Arts Gallery is announcing 2^nd Annual call for artists for “Represent Brooklyn”.  Exhibition is scheduled for April 11^th to May 9^th, 9^th 2009.

The exhibition is open to painters, photographers, mix media, and sculpture artists.

Artists must be 18 years or older, must live in Brooklyn, or work in a studio in Brooklyn or be listed as a member of a Brooklyn art association. Artwork must be influenced by or have some connection to Brooklyn.

Now up! John has four paintings in a group show titled “Encryptions” at MH Art & Framing Gallery, 9 West 20th Street (just west of Fifth Avenue), New York, NY 10011.  The dates of the show are December 6 through January 24.  Opening reception on Thursday, December 11, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Hope you can join us from 6-9pm at Lolita Bar (266 Broome @ Allen) on the Lower East Side next Thursday, December 11 for some vibrant pop art, good tunes and warm local food.
